📖MIDDLE SCHOOL READING
Students in Mrs. Sheila's 8th grade reading classes are currently involved in Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" Insanity Plea mock trial. The classes are divided up between the prosecution and the defense, and each team must argue their case while backing up claims with text evidence and sound reasoning. Students are required to:
* Cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
* Write arguments to support a substantive claim with clear reasons and relevant and sufficient evidence.
* Write in response to literary or informational sources, drawing evidence from the text to support analysis and reflection as well as to describe what they have learned.
* Evaluate the speaker's point of view, reasoning, and use of evidence and rhetoric.
* Present information, evidence, and reasoning in a clear, well-structured way appropriate to purpose and audience.
This is always a well-received assignment by students because Gators are competitive and we are in it to win it!
